- Is the process design validated with real heat and material balances, or assumptions?
- Are the P&IDs detailed enough that procurement can actually price equipment?
- Has the plot plan been checked against real routing and tie-in constraints?
- Is the CAPEX estimate based on preliminary equipment specs and vendor input, or a rough multiplier?
When these are answered properly, the project moving into Detailed Engineering has a stable foundation. When they aren’t, every downstream discipline — piping, electrical, instrumentation, construction — inherits the ambiguity, and it compounds.
